You will create a visual presentation using Google Slides (or any approved format) to be shared with your Co-op teacher (no later than Friday, June 12th).
Overall Value 10%. Be sure your project is professional looking and do your best to include:
A. Appealing layout & Creativity
B. Pictures/visuals and/or audio (if applicable) throughout. A picture can tell a story. Videos can be embedded.
C. Smooth flow of presentation. Point form is fine.
D. Proper spelling, grammar, paragraph structure (when appropriate), capitalization, sentence structure.
Visual Presentation Components:
1. Title Slide: Your name and co-op placement
2. Placement Profile slides: Description of the Business
-Location, brief history, and size of the company.
-List products/services provided by the company.
-Include an employee flow chart diagram (if you are able to) to demonstrate the various departments and chain of command. (this part is optional if you can’t complete it anymore due to you having to work from home)
3. Your Job Description:
-Summarize your job description at your Co-op placement as if it were a posting for a new Co-op student.
-Include as much information as possible with respect to your duties, routines, tasks, responsibilities, tools and equipment used, personal protective equipment used, specialized words/terms used on the job, and job specific training acquired at the placement.
4. Skills and Abilities:
-What skills, abilities and/or personal attributes should an entry level worker or future co-op student have coming into this worksite?
-What classes in high school would help them succeed here? This can be both specific and general. What other traits, knowledge, or attributes will future students need?
5. What I learned:
-List things did you learn while on placement? - This can be specific like using a new tool or piece of equipment or general items like patience and general employ-ability skills.
6. Education & Career Awareness:
-Select a job that you were exposed to at your placement (co-worker or employer him/herself), and describe the academic and educational requirements for this job.
-What additional training does the company provide to its employees for this position?
-Is there room for advancement or promotion?
-What is the starting and potential salary growth of this job?
7. Labour Market Trends
-Visit indeed.com and find Help wanted ads for the career YOU plan to pursue - Include 2-3 local help wanted ads from indeed.com to give viewers an idea of requirements.
8. Reflection / Summary
-Although you were only at your placement briefly, what were your Likes and dislikes?
-What did you view as the Pro’s and Con’s of the profession?
9. Goal Setting
-List a goal you would like to achieve before the end of summer.
-What tasks/steps will you need to complete in order to achieve your goal. Please include at least three (2) tasks/steps in your goal.
-What obstacles to you see getting in the way of you achieving your goal.
10. My Resume in 2 years
As I explained at the beginning of the semester, your resume should always be evolving. Especially for someone your age. List 5 specific things your resume will include 2 years from now that it doesn't at the moment. (For example: training, certificates, volunteer opportunities, job experience, licenses, education, etc.)
11. Life in 5 years
-Describe what your ideal life will look like in 5 years.
-Where will you be working? What job will you be doing? How much do you hope to earn?
-Where will you be living? What possessions would you like to have? What experiences would you like to have had?
12. Report card comment
Your report card comment normally follow this format; student strength, weakness, areas to improve upon and recommendations. If you had the opportunity to write your own report card comment what would you say about your performance over the past 5 months? Please be honest!
